Cardiff City Reserves
« on: Tuesday 28 December 21 10:47 GMT (UK) »
I have G. W. Gale goalkeeper with Cardiff City reserves in the 1934 season, found two snippets in the Dec 1934 issue of the Western Mail showing him with CC reserves, one cutting state he played for them in 1933 but I can find no reference to that.  Can anyone please help.

Thanks in advance

Mr Billy Hardy, the former Cardiff City half back, who is now the manager of Bradford A.F.C.; has offered a trial to Jack Gale, who kept goal for Cardiff City Reserves last season.
Gale. who is only 18 years of age has accepted the invitation.

Hi Sam
That's the snippet I referred to but I cannot find any reference to him in a CC team in 1933

No mention of G Gale in the reports so far on which goal keepers were named :

Merthyr Express 21 January 1933, p.4 Duke (or could be Dyke) saved a goal

Western Mail 02 January 1933, p4. names W. Burden as city's new amateur goal keeper

9 Mar Western Mail 1933, p. 4 - Adams goal keeper

13 March, p.5 mentions  Adams as the new reserves
keeper who made a number of saves against Penydarren

Merthyr Express 30 December 1933, p. 11 Adams the goal keeper who gave a brilliant display against Merthyr who could have racked up a cricket score otherwise

Hi Sam

I appreciate your efforts, I do wonder if the reporter (WM Aug 1934) has made an error with Gale the keeper in 1934 season only?

G Gale named as goal keeper for Cardiff Amateurs October 1933

Booth's Hat trick
Cardiff unfortunate to lose by three goals

Aberaman entertained Cardiff Amateurs in the first round of the F.A amateur cup on Saturday at Aberaman Park............Booth completed his hat trick, with a solo dribble ending in a drive which Gale failed to hold. Gale had a busy time in goal. and played well to keep the score down to three goals.........
Cardiff Amateurs: G. Gale

Merthyr Express 07 October 1933. p.15

Well Done, at the very least it confirms he did play in goal for a Cardiff team in 1933.

I attached the only snippet I found of him playing for Cardiff reserves in 1834, from the Western Mail 24 Dec.  He had a trial with Bradford City in August that year and played v Rotherham United on the 29th and played for Bradford Reserve team on 14 Sept v Peterborough.

It appears he then returned to play for Cardiff until Oct 1935 when he signed for Bangor.

I would be grateful if you could please help locate games he played for Cardiff in 1934.

No mentions, apart from the 2 you have already. I checked all match reports and I'm afraid he's not mentioned any further in any of them for either Cardiff Reserves or Corinthians. Hardly any match reports (maybe one) mentioned goal keepers at all.

I'm not sure whether you are looking at his career with other clubs, or just following his goal keeping for the Cardiff Reserves, but he is mentioned (with cartoon type sketch) in the Reading Standard 22 September 1939, p.10

Hi Sam

It is his career in total I am interested in and I have located numerous snippets of his time with Bangor City, Northwich Victoria, New Brighton and Reading.   It all started with a Gelligaer team photo in the early 1930s but I failed to find any reports for that team so tried Cardiff City reserves and as you have discovered there are practically none.

I've not seen the cartoon sketch in the Reading Standard 22 September 1939, p.10 and I would appreciate a copy of that please.
