Kilcloney evictions
« on: Friday 31 December 21 18:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone - i recently discovered that my ancestors (kielys/Kealys) were involved in an eviction from Kilcloney by Viscount Beresford around 1840.
I read that they were evicted, yet I know that they continued living there. Does anyone know anything about this?

A very warm welcome to Rootschat.

Dublin Morning Register, 21 April 1840
Under the heading "EXTERMINATION IN CARLOW" where 17 families were evicted on 7th April, those named included -
John Kealy, wife and child (3)
John Kealy, brother, wife and 2 children (5)
Edward Kealy, aged 92, wife aged 84, 2 sons and dau-in-law (5)
Widow Kealy and 5 children (6)

A separate publication refers to "Lord Beresford".

For the OP, here's the location of the townland of Kilcloney - east of the village of Goresbridge and north of the village of Borris.

Hi rayjk ,

Was talking to local historian who wrote the article re. the Kilcloney eviction .
He would have a connection to the Kealy/ Kiely family you mention .

Can pm you his email/ number if you make another couple of posts on the site .

Hi guys - sorry its taken me so long to reply - yes id love to hear more. As I said my main query is that after my Kiely ancestors were evicted, they must have been reinstated fairly quickly as they lived there until the 1930's. So what happened?
