From which ‘death index’ have you got the information that she died in January 1978 ?

It says registration date Jan 1978
Above registration quarter

I can only see that she died in the January/February/March quarter of 1978.
Thee's a birth reg for an Ethel Maud Britton, June Q, 1906, Keynsham vol 05c p 524

It's probably the closest record I have. As I literally only have her name to go by. I will see if I can find a marriage between Herbert britton and a Garland.

MMN - Garland.

There are others but not in that year

Would this fit in with what you know of her? You don't seem to have seen it.

This and the other thread mentioned seem to be a little muddled so I thought that I'd put up my findings~

She was born:

Ethel Maud Britton, June Q, 1906, Keynsham vol 05c p 524  MMN Garland

She does appear on the 1911 with parents and siblings in Keynsham

She married:

Ethel Maud Britton married  William Gale Q2 1925 Keynsham

She appears on the 1939 register with William and others, in the same area.

She died
:

Ethel Maud Gale
Q1, 1978, Bristol  v. 22 p0789 birthdate given as 2/4/ 1906

Probate:
8 August 1978, Bristol
Death Date - 12 March 1978

Her parents'  names seem to be changeable but a Britton married a Garland in  Q4 1899, Keynsham - George Britton and Florence Garland. However, following them back brings up some odd results.

I'm now confused as there seem to be 2 families in the 1901-1911 period

I've now found the correct family on the 1911. This fits with the  1898 marriage of George and Florence. She also had a brother named Herbert.

Information from both threads now correspond

Thank you this is the family I have been led too. Just threw me with her father's name being different. Perhaps she did state her brothers name on her marriage certificate as being her father or perhaps George was known as Herbert. Who knows. Seems like they must be the same family.
