WW1 / RAMC TF / Cyril Woods / Help … /
« on: Tuesday 04 January 22 14:32 GMT (UK) »
Hello …

I am wondering if there is anyway to find out if …

Cyril Woods
BIRTH 16 JUL 1894 • Northamptonshire, United Kingdom
DEATH 27 AUG 1946 • Northampton, Northamptonshire

… is Cyril Woods, Acting Lance Corporal in the RAMC TF - 510142 London Field Regiment ( as shown on National Archives Medial Archive WO 372/22/61057 )

and there’s also a record on Ancestry for a Private Cyril Woods in the 183rd  Regiment which Wikipedia says is (2nd Gloucester and Worcester) Brigade - which was made up of “men in the Territorial Force who, for various reasons, did not volunteer to serve overseas when asked at the outbreak of war.”

Is there anyway to discover more?

My Dad (who was adopted) is now 97, and was left a WW1 photo of a unnamed RAMC Acting Lance Corporal, but doesn’t know the name of his father.

Intriguingly, Ancestry DNA shows a possible connection to Cyril Woods in Northampton.

NB: I know Cyril Woods and his brother Melbourne Victor Woods in Northampton - were both Conscientious Objectors (source: British Newspaper Archive) - so I think being in the RAMC is therefore possible.

Any suggestions where I could look?

This looks like the remains of the service record of Cyril Woods from Northampton. No 7 Eastern Company, Non-Combatant Corps.

His address on his attestation papers gives his address as 7, Lorne Road, he is listed at this address in 1911 and 1939 and worked as a clicker in Boot Manufacturing.

Could you post the picture here so that we can see if we can find a match.

I have posted this a few years ago - I thought the solder was another person, but that’s definitely not the case.

This was left for my father - my Dad was born in 1924.

There is a group photo including Cyril Woods with matching info on a tree on Ancestry, the tree owner is called Woody Holmes. Take a look and see what you think, the photo is of an older man, but I can see a likeness. I can't post the photo here as it contravenes Rootschat privacy policy.

Good Luck!
