Reading marriages 1905 and 1919
« on: Saturday 08 January 22 10:42 GMT (UK) »
Hello kind souls

I'm trying to connect some dots with a DNA match of mine and the following marriages would help so much:

March quarter 1905, Reading registration district: John Godfrey and Frances Pope
September quarter 1919, Reading registration district: John Godfrey and Sarah Parsons

I don't know who John's father was, so these may help push back a generation.
Thanks for reading and helping, it's appreciated  :)

Andy

Once more, my thanks LizzieL. I think he married four times in his long live.
I wonder if we can find the 1905 marriage too  :)

All the best

Can't find a transcript of the 1905 marriage, maybe registry office. Looks like John was the crane inspector and father of Elizabeth Martha

Exactly, LizzieL. Elizabeth Martha was his eldest daughter.
With the information you provided about his father, I can work on that now! Thanks

The marriage locator for the 1905 one says

The entry is located between entries for Reading St Mary the Virgin and Reading Wesley Chapel Queens Road, both in RD Reading

John b abt 1829 consistently says he was born in Garsington, Oxon on censuses, but the only John of right sort of age in Garsington is s/o Charles. There is a a John s/o John and Mary baptised in Woodstock

This is the trouble I'm having. That's why I hoped for the other marriage info too to confirm his father's name and occupation.
I think I may have to start a new thread for John Godfrey as I can't find his first two marriages either. Keeps up busy, hey :)
