Phillip and Elizabeth Purvey about 1700 in Withington area.
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 11:01 GMT (UK) »
I’m seeking any information on Phillip and Elizabeth Purvey (Philip and Eliz Purvey).

Their son James Purvy was Christened at Windrush, Gloucestershire on 3rd November 1723. His elder brother, Thomas Purvey (Note: spelling variation) was Christened at Withington, Gloucestershire on 21st October 1720.

I have not found any records for other siblings.

For both brothers the parents are recorded as Phillip and Elizabeth Purvey / Philip and Eliz Purvey and this is where I have the problem.

I can find no records for birth, marriage or death for Philip (Phillip) or his wife Elizabeth.

Based on the Christening date for their son Thomas I'm guessing the latest date for Phillip's marriage (assuming he married) would be about 1705.

Subsequent generations of this family line are in the general area of Withington/North Cerney/Chedworth.

Any details for Phillip and Elizabeth Purvey / Philip and Eliz Purvey would be marvellous.

With my thanks.

Hello
Both the christenings describe Phillip and Elizabeth as travellers so you should look at a wider area.

Find a grave has a gravestone for a Phillip Purvey May 1734 at All Hallows Wallingford.
His burial gives it as 28.3.1734 and a traveller of St Mary the more affadavit recieved at All Hallows.

Son James s of Phillip and Elizabeth is buried at Hatherop 2.5.1730

The nearest I can find for a marriage and I'm really noty sure it's them
Phillip Pavy of Marden 5.12.1715 at Everleigh Wiltshire to Elizabeth Lovell of this parish by banns.
I can only get the transcript so it could be a mispelling. But there is a couple Phillip and Elizabeth  in the area having children as Pavy at the same time.

Hi Ciderdrinker,
Thanks for the swift reply and the information.
I did see the 'Pavy' that you cited. There have been various spellings of the surname but mainly 'Purvey', Purvy' and 'Pevey'. I could nit make the connection with 'Pavy' with any degree of certainty.
I note your information and will keep digging.
Thanks once again.
