Name of pit
« on: Thursday 13 January 22 15:41 GMT (UK) »
I have found on the 21 census that my family lived in Pelton, it says name of employee is Birtley Iron Company but the place of work is Morpeth G Pit.  That seems a very long way from Pelton.  Has anyone heard of a pit called Morpeth G in the Durham area.  Not sure if in the right place of this post.

thanks

Have you seen the image? or just a transcript?

The Birtley Iron Company had an "Urpeth C" pit

Argh that makes so much more sense, many thanks.  I saw the original document and it has been written in red pen Morpeth G Pit.  But must say Urpeth, thanks very much.  Thought was too far to travel.
