Had to have a new hard drive now family tree maker won’t open
« on: Thursday 20 January 22 12:00 GMT (UK) »
When I had a new laptop some years ago which had Windows 10, Family Tree maker was installed and everything moved over. It wasn’t the newest version but it worked.

I have had to have a new hard drive in the laptop and borrowed the disc for family tree maker to be loaded again but unfortunately the disc loads but won’t open. This is the same disc that was on before.

The computer shop is totally bemused as to why the disc won’t load and I’m panicking about all my family history.

Any ideas beyond borrowing/buying a different disc?

How about going to another laptop and copying All files ftom the disc onto a USB Stick. Then install on your laptop from USB

Many thanks but the disc loads but doesn’t open on one of their PCs in their workshop. To be honest I don’t understand it at all.

If you do have to buy don't get a disk but do a download - that might work.

Have you checked these settings?

How to install programs from a disc on Windows 10
Windows 10

Insert the disc into your PC, and then follow the instructions on your screen.

If install doesn't start automatically, check your AutoPlay settings.

In the search box on the taskbar, type AutoPlay settings and select it from the results.

Make sure AutoPlay is On.

select: use AutoPlay for all media and devices
