I have an aunty who was born in Wales in 1907. She grew up in Conway Workhouse and subsequently lived in a small village in North Wales and I’m 95% sure I have her in 1921 and 1939 and details of marriage in 1944. She apparently believed herself (wrongly) to be an orphan.  Does anybody know of any reason why I should not advertise in local newspapers for anybody that might have known her?

When you say "anybody that might have known her" do you really mean any of her children/grandchildren?

She may not have shared details of her childhood with neighbours etc & I very much doubt they would be interested in your findings so I can't see any point in advertising in general terms.

Have you checked Ancestry to see if anybody has her in their tree?  Her descendants are more likely to be interested in your findings

Thanks Carole. Sorry there was an error in my posting in that she married in 1944, not 1940. I have corrected that. Given that she married quite late and I have not been able to trace any likely children my hope was really that somebody in the village might possibly remember her and confirm that there weren’t any.  I haven’t yet exhausted all other search possibilities but just wondered if anybody out there had any experience of using newspaper postings, good or bad.

Have you thought of contacting/joining one of the Facebook groups that cover that area. This has worked for one or two people who have posted on a group covering my area.

Wording of any messages would be important.
