This is my great grandmother who I knew as a kid. I've spent many MANY hours trying to identify her parents and fit her into a family. The key thing I'm lacking is a baptism record with father's or maiden name. What I know for sure is:
DOB: 2/1/1894
Place: Holywell (from civil birth record
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2FS8-T4N)
Married: 1927, Hawarden, Charles William Hayes (7/12/1893)
[1939 record confirms all birthdates inc. daughter]
Died: 5/1/1990
I can track her husband's side to day zero, but it's incredibly frustrating that I can't go even one step back with Catherine.
The best fit I can find is with Henry Hughes (1867) and Catherine hughes (1869) of Whitford who have a 'Catherine E' who fits in most ways. That is, not just rough dates but also in welsh speaking and living on or around a farm. However, despite the fact that this seems to fit well (Ancestry.com shows DNA 'thru-lines' extending through Catherine and her 'parents', but I don't trust these much) there are things that don't sit right, including that middle initial which is on nothing else I can find with
myCatherine. And a marriage of their Catherine to someone else, although with scant records.
I also can't find her on the 1921 census. I've cross-referenced all of the 19xx censuses across not just Catherine and her namesakes, but possible parents and siblings and drawn a total blank.
Can anyone help please? I guess a baptism record (if there even was one) would be key (full wedding cert with parents on would too). How else might I find a parent name? Still pretty new to all this...
