 My great grandfather was attacked in Neilston Renfrewshire, subsequently dying of his wounds in Western Infirmary 5/7/1885.
Before he died he gave a deposition to the Sheriff. Amazingly I have a copy of his handwritten hospital notes which are fascinating.
I wonder if anyone can offer advice about the best way to find out if there is a record of this deposition and where I might find it. I don’t know if his assailant was ever charged. I’ve tried looking at newspapers of the time without any success.
My gt grandfather’s name was Charles Gallacher and his attacker surname Lynch.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I don't know if it will be of any help - otherwise I would have thought the local County Archives, should have records of court proceedings. Mine does in England.
