George Taylor b 1806-1808 Measham Derbyshire
« on: Wednesday 02 February 22 11:59 GMT (UK) »
Hi looking for the death of a George Taylor born Measham Derbyshire 1806-08. He married a Marie Stanley in 1828 in Snareston. He was last seen on the 1881 census in Moira Leicestershire, Maria was on her own in 1891 in Donisthorpe and was widowed. I found one for a George born 1813 but the death age isn't old enough. George would have been 78 yrs plus on death, depending on what year he died.

Ages at death are given by the person reporting the death & based on their knowledge of the deceased.

My great grandfather was 75 when he died as per all census info.  One of his daughters reported his death & he is shown as 65

You show him b 1806-1808 but he is 78 in 1881 - birthyear 1803

I agree with Carole - back in the day no evidence of the age of the deceased was required - only the word of the person registering the death.

I had a similar experience with a death registered, showing the deceased to be 10 years younger than they actually were. I ordered the death certificate and it was definitely my ancestor, as it had been registered by her son in law.

If you are unsure, order a PDF copy of the death certificate from the GRO - unless they have died in a hospital or the like, you can hopefully tell whether it's the correct person by the address, occupation and informant.
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

Living in the Ashby de la Zouch RD in 1881.  Only death in that RD is 1883 aged 70

No other George Taylor on the 1881 matching a birthyear 1805-1815

Hi thanks for your replies, I know they used to round up the ages and years but 7 yrs is a bit much. The death I found was 1883 in Donisthorpe. George and Maria lived on Paradise Row in Moira Leicestershire for most of their lives.

Rounding was only on the 1841 census - not on other censuses or deaths

If they lived in Moira then his death would be registered in the Ashby de la Zouch RD so the one I show above is more than likely to be him
