Possibly Plymouth Brethren relatives - Devonshire 1800s
« on: Sunday 06 February 22 11:38 GMT (UK) »
I think these four people belonged to the same family as they were in my late grandmothers collection and appear to be all taken in Devonshire in the 1800s.

I am informed by a relative that we had Plymouth Brethren in the family around that period, and I think this may be them.

Would anyone be able to date the pictures?

Also given what I have read about how Plymouth Brethren dressed in the day, I'm a bit uncertain if these people were PB or not

They look 1860s to me.

First one would be later 60s.

 ;D

I've just been looking up more about the PBs and found some of the current rules. Given these, I wonder if they were even allowed to have their photos taken - although there is one photo.

I'm sorry Gadget, the scans were done about 10 years ago and the originals are in another city. They had nothing written on the back, otherwise, I would have noted the name in the name of the file

I suspect the first one is either the mother of, or Catherine Hodder herself (the only woman in that family that had a name written on the back of the picture). Catherine migrated to NZ in abt 1863/4
I can see a family resemblance I think between the 2 photos

Note that her head is covered and wearing a long ankle length dress. Not sure where her photo was taken, but presumably in NZ, as all her children were born in NZ
