Murphy's from Tempo, Fermanagh
« on: Sunday 06 February 22 21:55 GMT (UK) »
Hey there. I am trying to research my maternal grandfather's line but being Murphy's it's like they're all spies and can't be found. My 2x great grandfather was Patrick Murphy who married Margaret McCarney and had what looks like 7 children from my searches for birth records. My great grandfather was Francis Murphy who married Magdalen Campbell and they are 3 children as far as I know, one being my grandfather in 1922. That's as far back as I can get on this line and I'm hoping to get further if anyone can help. I was told they were from Co. Tyrone as well but all records I have found are in Fermanagh.

Thank you for reading!

Thank you so much for the welcome! I have information for my great grandfather. Francis Murphy born in 1920 I'll have to get some credits and take a look to see the mother's first name as I had him born in 1924 but I can't remember where I got that from.

It's more anything before my 2x great grandfather I'm having issues with. Thanks for all these helpful link!

My 2x great grandfather was Patrick Murphy who married Margaret McCarney........

Just linking the marriage which occurred on 18th July 1870 in Tempo RC Church.
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1870/11392/8182734.pdf

Both living in the townland of Drummackin (sic).

Remember that civil registration of births, Catholic marriages & deaths started in 1864 so before those dates, church records (if they exist) will need to be found. You will need an idea of location (parish if not actual townland).

Here are the RC registers for Tempo RC parish. Baptisms only start in 1845.
