Quinn-Morrisroe, Marriage
« on: Saturday 03 September 05 10:06 BST (UK) »
I have in my possesion a photo copied extract of the marriage of John Quinn and Sarah Morrisroe. It states that they married on the 27th  May 1860 in the catholic church of Ballaghadereen, Co Roscommon. The diocese is given as Anchonry and Castlemore/Kilcolman are also  mentioned  One of the witnesses was a Bridget Regan the other one was John [? for surname]
I'm trying to find out which church this is likely to be so that I can write to the priest to see if I can find more info.
The photo copy is dated Sept 2000,It's really hard to read and I don't know where it came from.
If anyone can help I'd be most grateful
Thanks,Pat

John Quinn & Sarah Morrisroe

John Quinn was born 1836, John’s wife Sarah Morrisroe born in 1839 married on the 27th May 1860 in St.Nathys Roman Catholic Cathedral in Ballaghaderreen, the Cathedral is in the Parish of Castlemore and Kilcolman and is the Cathedral for the Diocese of Achonry Co. Roscommon Ireland .
Shortly after their marriage they moved to England from Ireland and settled at No 4 Swan Street Hanley Stoke on Trent Staffordshire.

John and Sarah decided around 1871 shortly after the birth of their son James in 1870 that they would emigrate to Ohio America the land of opportunity.
John worked for the pacific railroad but sadly in 1874 John died in an accident on his way to or from the railroad this is unclear as no records can be found of the accident as yet, but a pension was given to Sarah from the USA that we know.
Sarah was pregnant with her fifth child when her husband John died, at this time in her life Sarah must have thought her world had just fallen apart and it looks like Sarah made the decision to return to England just 6 weeks after the birth of her fifth child Eleanor, Sarah and her children set off from Cleveland Ohio to set sail back to England from New York.
Sarah and her five children docked at Liverpool then made their way to Hanley, they settled in Marsh Street Hanley.
When John Jr one of John and Sarah’s 5 children got married he and his new wife Mary moved to Stockport, because work was plentiful in the area.
John jr got a job working at the Bredbury pits; in 1888 John Jr’s wife died giving birth to their first child it was at this point that John Jr’s mother Sarah moved to Stockport to look after her grandchild and lived in her son’s house at No 3 Crowther Street Hillgate Stockport until her death in 1893 aged 54, John Jr married twice and had 3 children one being John born 1901 whom later became Fr John Quinn.

I have lots more info and photo's of the above but would like to find John quinn and Sarah Morrisroe's birth place and their Mother's and Father's birth records. Than you for your help
