A Donegal marriage prior to 1832: between Anthony YOUNG and Rachel DUNCAN.
« on: Thursday 17 February 22 17:46 GMT (UK) »
It seems a while since I was on these Irish Boards, so could someone tell me where I need to look for a possible marriage in Donegal County prior to 1832 between an Anthony YOUNG and a Rachel DUNCAN.  They had at least a son, Anthony, who in the 1861 Glasgow Census states that he was born in 1832 in Donegal.  Having emigrated eastwards across the Irish Sea some time prior to 1851 to live in the household of what would appear to be his YOUNG family in Scotland, head of household possibly an elder brother James, 8 years his senior...
Many thanks in advance,
Keith

Civil registration of Catholic marriages started 1864 (non-Catholic ones from 1845). For earlier dates you need to search for church records (which may or may not exist for such an early date).

If it was a Catholic marriage there might be something here but arranged by Catholic parish-

If Anthony went to Scotland at a young age it would be worth looking for both his parents there as well. If either or both died in Scotland thei death certificates might contain details not found in existing Irish records.

In 1851 Anthony, aged 19, shoemaker, is a visitor at 35 Rottenrow, Glasgow, staying with James Young, 27, a shoemaker, and his wife, Maryann, 20. They have children, Elizabeth, 2, and Anthony, 3 months. Other visitors include:

"Rebeca" Young, 17, factory girl
"Cathrine" Young, 15, factory girl
"Easther" Young, 13, scholar

I wonder if James, Anthony, Catherine and Esther are brothers and sisters?

Another thing to consider - in 1855 a great deal of extra information was recorded when births and deaths were registered in Scotland, including the parents'  parishes of birth, how long they had lived in the parish where the child's birth took place, their ages, and how many children the mother already had. If Anthony's oldest child, who seems to have been Jane, was born in 1855, it might be useful to see what the certificate says.
