« on: Monday 07 March 22 13:45 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I’m new on here….I’ve just got the 1921 census and looked up my Great grandmother and it states she came from Kilkenneth Ireland…I’ve tried to look this place up on a map but can only find Kilkenny….Does anyone know if both are same place or the spelling has changed over the years…Thank you..

Have you checked the handwritten sheet?
There looks to be a Kilkenneth in Scotland.
If it says, Ireland, I would think it likely that it is Kilkenny.
You can look up births (from 1864 to 1920) here

I know she came from Ireland as stated on children’s birth certificates…on the 1921 census it states Kilkenneth and the census was filled out by her as head of the house…I did look at maps and the only Kilkenneth in Scotland….this was why I asked if anyone knew…I know over years places, names etc get misspelt….also I can’t find any birth, marriage certificates for her, so I can’t move forward ☹️

Thank you for giving me the idea of looking at the original, which I have done, and I personally think it’s Kilkenny…unfortunately the 1921 census cost £2.50 each image you look at and £3.50 for any original image you look at…so it could be an expensive hobbie now

Hi ya, I was looking for my great grandmother an Ellen Donelly, 1864, all I knew was she came from Ireland…since looking at  the 1921 census, I found her surname was spelt Donnelly..hopefully I think she is the right person coming from BallyCallan in Kilkenny, plus her parents…at least it’s another generation 😁

I couldn’t work out who you was referring to when you asked me if they were the one I was looking for..any help would be appreciated..👍

I’ve been doing my tree since 1995, my old posts I see are from 2007, I only came back to Roots yesterday…as I stated before I couldn’t find much info on Ellen Donnelly, all I knew  was she was from Ireland…I found some info on the 1939 census and the latest info on the 1921 census…but I’m not to happy about paying to look at the 1921 census on top of my membership..

Where do you have her from Ballycallan?

Is it this baptism - 14th January 1864 with parents James and Ally Heffernan?
https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000635296#page/53/mode/1up

This is the birth registration
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1864/03624/2337731.pdf

There are several baptisms to this couple from around 1856 - 1876 and there will be birth records from 1864.
