Can anyone help me find my 3 times Great Grandmother?
« on: Wednesday 09 March 22 12:47 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my 3 time Great Grandmother Sarah Jane Pugh(e).  From 1939 register and 1921 census her date of birth is narrowed down to June 1857 although previous census's make her slightly older.   I can't trace her birth successfully, think may have found marriage Cert but name is Sarah Anne father James Moses a Carpenter deceased at time of marriage in 1885.   I can't find any trace of James Moses.

Followed up a few other leads but so far nothing definite, can anyone help?

Jenny.

OOPs Should have said Sarah Jane was born in Dolgelly, later moved and married in London.

Hi Trish, yes her Maiden name was Pugh sometimes found with an e on the end but I have looked at the reference you gave me and think that  Sarah died in 1862.

Looking at all of the baptisms etc., the only person I can find is the one mentioned by Trish. Sarah Ann Pugh, daughter of Hugh and Anne.

On one census, her birth place looks a bit like Towyn but might be Talyllyn.

She is part of this family, all of the children baptised in Talyllyn: https://thesignsofthetimes.com.au/34/61934.htm

There are wills of that family, but earlier.

What about this family.   I know Sarah is born London but if she moved to Dolgellau at such ayoung age she couldn't be sure; she may be too old.

1861 Census South Street, Dolgellau, Dolgelly, Merionethshire, Wales

Catherine Pugh Head 30 Charwoman  Dolgellau
Sarah Pugh daughter 6 Scholar London
Ann Pugh daughter 3 Scholar London
Evan Pugh son 1 _____ Dolgellau

Definitely Towyn....but of course the Talyllyn railway heads from Talyllyn to Tywyn (Towyn)

edited to say that Tywyn is closer to Machynlleth than Dolgellau
