William Stubbington of Upham (died 1849)
« on: Friday 11 March 22 15:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am looking to trace an ancestor of mine, William Stubbington. He died in 1849 in Droxford (near Upham) and the death record gives his age as 42 (born 1806/1807 give or take). He married Harriet Ray on 17 January 1833 in Upham. In the 1851 census Harriet is listed as widowed, and with a daughter born 1848/9, I am confident that the death record is a match.

I am having trouble finding his baptism record and his parents' names. If anyone could help I would be most grateful.

Jack

On the same page of the 1841 entry there is a Daniel Stubbington aged 40 - may possibly be a brother

Closest I can find is a William Stubbington born 1811 in Hinton Ampner, and that can't be right as that William Stubbington was alive in 1851, and also had a different family.

I've found a Daniel Stubbington baptised on 5 June 1800 in Upham (parents John and Mary), who married Hannah Taylor on 16 June 1830 in Owslebury, his wife's hometown. Daniel died in Q1 1853 aged 53, which supports a 1799/1800 birth. However, his marriage record lists his age as 21 (maybe it was an error?), but everything else matches with the 1841 census.

Marriage records pre - 1837 only show "over 21" or "o/21" - they do not record actual ages if the person is over 21
