Thanks Rosie,
I think the birth date is correct -
KING    Robert Edward
Maldon reg district    12   173 from BMD

However the Family search for 1881 gives 2 different daughters, Emma and Ellen - i cannot find anything to suggest that this is the same family, but would be happy to stand corrected  :)

Emma King married Philip Henry Underwood 23.12.1899 Hanwell. Her father is recorded as Robert King, occupation "Gamekeeper" Her sister Florence was a witness. Emma appears on 1939 war register with dob as 5th June 1873. Believe she died aged 84 in 1958.

Not sure if you noticed that the 1881 census also shows a Mary Coult aged 32 who is Eliza's sister, both born in the same place.

1871 census

Wille Cottee 55
Matilda Cottee 44
Robert Cottee 20

Living in Great Totham
RG10 1674 152 5

William Cottee married Matilda KING  22 Sep 1849 at Great Totham. The 1849 birth reg for Robert Edward King gives no mmn so presumably illegitimate.

The 1911 census for Robert & Eliza records 6 children born, all still alive. You have named 4, the other 2 are Emma & Ellen. They were both in service in 1891, Emma in Southminster, Ellen in Purleigh.
