Update . I have now traced the long line of  Lancashire EDEN coal miners  back to
Common DNA ancestors Edward EDEN  1734- m. Elizabeth MORRIS

With DNA thru lines to their daughter Sarah
& son Thomas EDEN * b. 1758 with matches to 3 of the latters  children s descendants

Found another CUNLIFFE connection too
Henrietta CUNLIFFE b.1855 married William EDEN 1854
 
Tho not really closer to finding the specific connection every bit helps .

Update narrowing down possible birth father
DNA matches on several lines have been higher than expected we've drawn the conclusion that Joseph EDEN + Amelia ROBERTS are not MRs great grandparents but grandparents . So he's actually closer to me and my relatives and to those on the EDEN side
Which narrows birth father down to Joseph Eden junior or Abiah Roger EDEN or leaving options open that the couple had a late child
 " George " who for some reason was brought up by another family or adopted in Yorkshire
Would there be birth records tho ?

Any surviving cousins or half siblings will be in their 80s or 90s. Thought I'd found one very helpful but daughter of Henry EDEN 1905 not Joseph .!

But couldn't  get any results ..maybe my parameters are too wide or they weren't buried in at Helens

i enjoyed reading memories of an atherton pitman
published 1990 by the late arthur griffiths (b1895 a descendant of long line of miners )

lots of anecdotes but few surnames  of people  im looking for..

unless  Welshman   Red Bill JONES one of 4 poachers is connected

other characters have names like Big Joe,
 Drunken Liz
Gentleman Dick +Mad Dick  and Sunny Jim

i didnt get to meet my 3rd cousin as planned in feb but we are now firm facebook friends

Ive looked on BillionGraves and theres not been a record uploaded of Amelias grave but if you have a burial record that shes there then she must be, unless there isnt a stone to photograph.
Ill have a mooch down this week, i have access to any cemetery in Atherton, Tyldesley and Leigh if you find any more records hinting they could be in a certain place, i know the Chowbent cemetery in Atherton and a Smaller one in Tyldesley ( close to Elliott street) isnt on BillionGraves.

According to their grandaughter
There were also a lot of informal adoptions within this family
Their grandson the late Derek wright 1903-2022 ran children's homes . I helped him find more about his cousins

If anyone has a DNA link to shared matches with me or MR. + These names come up in matches trees . I may know the connections.

Update . Another  direct descendant of Gertrude EDEN  has added a tree on Ancestry and copied some of the information going back to mutual ancestors in Wales
Looks like a great grandson of living male JONES so hopefully they will reply and put me in touch with their living grandfather or other relatives who may have old wedding photos + stories and suchlike .

They don't know the people on the grooms side of photo but I suspect it could be Joseph's 2 sisters Gertrude aged 21 and Mary Ellen  26  already married +6 months pregnant

& brother Abiah Roger EDEN 23

The other man could be brother in law Robert CLEMENTSON age 26
Or future  b-i-l  Albert JONES 19

Grooms mother Amelia age 55 absent from this picture

Sorry it's not very good quality does anyone else see a family resemblance between any of them
