Harehills Cemetery and Beckett Street Cemetery
« on: Wednesday 30 March 22 10:05 BST (UK) »
Morning All
Trying to establish if a John Henry Bell who died in 1921 is really interred in a Guinea Grave.
Been in touch with Friends of Beckett Street cemetery in Leeds but there is no record of him even though family anecdotes for decades said that he was in that cemetery.
So is it possible that he is in Harehills Cemetery, Leeds ?  But do they have Guinea Graves ???

One other possibility that strikes me is that John Henry Bell had a son who died age 9 in 1897....now he for certain is in Beckett Street Cemetery......perhaps he is the one in the Guinea Grave and the family stories have been confused ?
Thanks for any help.

According to the findagrave website there is a burial at Harehills for John Henry Bell in 1921 - Section D1, grave 617.  JHB said to be 55-56, born 1865.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

The 1897 burial at Beckett Street - 7 March 1897 - James, son of John Bell, 45 Argyle Place - aged 9.
Grave number 11725, which, I'm assuming, is a children's grave from the ages shown.

Not that this helps with burial of your John Henry Bell and you probably already have this information

For info....daughter Florence’s baptism on 18 May 1898 has address 35 Argyle Place

Was his wife named Laura? If so, it looks as if she died 1936 and is buried at Harehills Cemetery, Plot Q, 364 https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/226721626/laura-bell

Rose Bell married 18 Oct 1919 father John Henry Bell, Boot & shoe maker
her address 5 Azalea Street, one witness Blanche Bell.

Blanche Bell married 24 Sept 1921 father John Henry Bell, Boot maker
her address 5 Azalea Street

The 1921 census was taken on 19 June 1921, if you use the advanced free search

surname BELL
address 5 Azalea Street

these four people appear to be living at that address

Laura 1869  b Portsmouth
Blanche 1891 b Cardiff
Foster 1898 b Leeds
Catherine 1902 b Leeds

I wonder if Foster has been mis-transcribed and should actually be Florence  :-\

Was that the same address on John's 1921 death certificate?

These burials can also be found at the Yorkshire Burials site:

7 names are listed for this grave, and there's a picture of the headstone.

Just to add to Arthur's comment on yorkshire burials, where possible a transcript of the headstone details (where available) is shown.
