Eliza Fisher Coroners Inquest Surrey 1882
« on: Monday 04 April 22 11:03 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone can help me please with a query about the availability of Coroners Inquest Reports?

I have been trying to track down the death of my 2xGGP Eliza Fisher b approx 1833.  I have received a possible death cert for her via a researcher who incorrectly ordered it.  However there is no family information on it to help me judge if this is my Eliza or not.

This Eliza Fisher died on 29th April 1882 at 42 Blackfriars Rd in the registration district St Saviour Surrey, Sub District Christ Church.  Female aged 48 years, occupation unknown, cause of death Natural Sudden Syncope.  Certificate received from William Carter Coroner for Surrey.  Inquest held 3rd May 1882.

I couldn't see anything in the London Newspaper Archives, and there are no Fishers at that address on the 1881 or 1891 census.  So I thought of trying to find the Inquest Report but I have no idea of how to go about it.

Thank you very much.

Eliza FISHER is a rather ordinary name. Might be better to try to find her death.

What information do you have about your Eliza FISHER, including the last (most recent) sighting of her eg Census entry...name as mother on a birth record.

Thanks wivenhoe

She was born Eliza Woodley approx 1833, daughter of James Woodley and Jane Price.  Eliza was the second wife of Edward Fisher and the last sighting I have for her is 1861 census at 78 Hill Place.  Her youngest child William J Fisher was born in 1863.  I have a death cert Eliza Fisher Lambeth 18th June 1869 but it's the wrong one.

Thanks too jonw65, I will have a look.

Thanks jonw65.
I will bear that in mind but I think Eliza Fisher must have died earlier than that.  I inherited some family history from my late mother which says that Eliza's eldest children had to help raise their younger siblings after their parents died.  Eliza's husband Edward Fisher died in 1868 so I'm expecting a death for Eliza around the same sort of time.

These Fisher ancestors from London were my first attempt at family tree research and I must admit I decided they were too difficult so I've moved onto easier branches of the tree.  It was only when this unwanted Eliza Fisher death cert was offered to me that I decided to revisit the Fisher branch.

Thanks again for the Inquest files details you gave me earlier.  A researcher friend is going to the London Metropolitan Archives next month and says she'll have a look for me.

Good luck!
Are they the family in Newington in 1861?

There is a burial record for an Eliza Fisher buried on the 13th January1864, abode given as Newington.  Age given as 32 years which gives a birth year of 1832 which is about right for your Eliza.

The cemetery is South Metropolitan Cemetery , Parish is St. Mary Newington.  The authority is given as London Borough of Lambeth and location is West Norwood Cemetery (Lambeth).

Place of burial is given as 8792 common grave sq 17.
