Collison Family.
« on: Friday 08 April 22 22:59 BST (UK) »
Have come to halt in my research.
I am looking for Elizabeth COLLISON"s Family. She was born in 1806 Cundall Father Francis.
She married Robert JOHNSON on 11th September 1825 at Ainderby Steeple.
They went on to have 11 children. The 10th child Mary Ann JOHNSON is my direct line. The 11 children were;
William 1826
Sarah 1829
Margaret 1831
Robert 1833
John 1835
Elizabeth 1837
Francis Guy 1839
Thomas 1841
James 1843
Mary Ann 1845
Jane 1848
I am trying to go back to my 4th great grandparents on the COLLISON side if possible.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Carol
P.s Will be out most of the day so if I don't reply I will be back tonight NZ time

What do you know already Carol?
Where do you get the birth date of 1806 from and the fact her father was Francis?
On her marriage in 1825, or have you found her birth?

Which sites have you tried?
familysearch, findmypast. freereg etc?

There's little point somebody going over the same ground you have.
Is this where you've drawn a blank?

Added:
The baptism is on familysearch. Transcription only. Have you seen the actual register to see what it says?
Also on familysearch a Francis Collison married Margaret Chilton 8 April 1800 at Northallerton - just a couple of miles from Ainderby Steeple. It looks as if the Banns book also survives, as the date for a 'marriage notice' is 9 March 1800 and 'Banns' 2 March.
No images viewable from home, but it looks as though they may be on one of the other sites like findmypast or ancestry.

There are a couple of other marriages for 'Francis Collinson' within a 15 miles radius. It may be the man, or different ones.

Pallot's marriage Index says Francis Collison was of Aronby when he married Margaret Chilton at Northallerton. Both were single.

Thanks for your help.
I no longer use paysites for searching as after 40 years of searching I find you need to subscribe to 2 or 3 sites to be able to get all the information you need to get the whole picture.
I have the baptism of Elizabeth from Family Search.

I have found Robert and Elizabeth residing at Low Worsall, Sunderland in the 1841 Census.
Robert born in 1804 dies in 1848 and Elizabeth born in 1806 dies in 1854.

I have also just found a birth for a Henry Collison born in 1818 Cundall Father Francis Mother Ann.

I know nothing about Elizabeth's parents apart from her father being Francis if I have the correct baptism.
Elizabeth had a son Francis born in 1839. He was the 4th son so unsure if this is an indication of her father's name.
Your help is much appreciated.

Have you found any of these people in the 1851, and later, Census records?

What marriage details do you have for your Mary Ann JOHNSON, b 1845?

Notes
Pallot's marriage Index says Francis Collison was of Aronby when he married Margaret Chilton at Northallerton. Both were single.

Google says there is no place called 'Aronby' in England.
It suggests a place called 'Hornby', which is  small village about 3 miles from Bedale, which is 8 miles from Northallerton.
(I guess if you say 'Aronby' in a broad Yorkshire accent, it could well have been 'Hornby'!).

I seem to remember there were Francis Collisons mentioned as being from Bedale when I was looking yesterday - on familysearch.

Thank you for all this information, some I had but you have given me extra detail. Your help is much appreciated.
So Francis Collison had 2 Marriages
Margaret Chilton  8 April 1800 and then Ann Dunn 15 Oct 1816.
Elizabeth and Mary by Margaret And Henry by Ann.
I also have 2 Baptism for Elizabeth Collison one on 12th Jan 1806 father Francis and another one on 21st  Jan 1806 Father Francis both at Cundall. Now you have given me a Baptism of 27th Dec 1805 Father Francis at Cundall. So was Francis Collison a common name in the area?

Yorkshire is a big County so being in New Zealand I don't have a clue how close each of these places is.

At the time of Christopher's Marriage to Mary Ann, Christopher was a Jet Miner. So guessing he was mining jet around Whitby.
Thanks again
Carol
