Medway Archives
« on: Tuesday 12 April 22 14:02 BST (UK) »
Having used Medway archives/ city ark, over the years, I now find it requires me to download each seperate parish record. When I try to open it , the screen freezes and won't move on. Is this something to do with Adobe which seems to have issues I don't understand? Can anyone help please,  I am not tech minded at all.
     Thanks  ama50

It's not the easiest website to use.  Are you following these instructions posted by mckha489?

from here https://cityark.medway.gov.uk  select  'Parish Records (Archdeaconry of Rochester'

eventually a list of parishes appears.
Choose your parish

At the next screen, click on the blue PLUS sign to the left of the name of the parish

at 'Incumbent Registers and services"  click the plus sign next to that  when you find the file you want to look at click on it. It changes colour to red.  Then Towards the top of the screen you will see the words "Digitised version" and next to that some numbers and PDF.  Click on that and the image of the parish register will download and open. (It can take a while)

You should then be able to scroll down the register images.

Thank you for that. I followed the links as stated, but as soon as I try to use the PDF the screen freezes and I have to restart my laptop. i'm sure it used to work ok without having to download each register to my laptop first.

It's working OK for me.  Could you try a different browser?

Are you sure the screen freezes?  They are very large files and the screen stays blank until the whole file has downloaded..

Thank you for your replies. Maybe I didn't wait long enough, so I shall try again and see if I have more success.
