1901/1911 census for Lackan
« on: Tuesday 12 April 22 20:52 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone ,
I have found my Kearns, Walsh ancestors in the Lackan censuses of 1901/1911.
There is a list of houses numbered from 1 to 58.
I think this list is the enumerators round and not specific house numbers.

Is there a way of finding out the route followed by the enumerator and if they still exist.
Grateful for any answers from anyone.

The numbers are the enumerators numbers and are not part of any modern house numbering system. The routes have not been recorded (and they varied from census to census according to the whim of each enumerator).

What you can do is look in the Valuation revision records for the period 1901 – 1911 which record most houses, normally using the same numbers as in Griffiths Valuation. Then use the Griffiths maps to locate them.  Of course a few new houses were built between the 1850s and 1901 but if it’s a farm, then it’s probably in the same place in both Griffiths and the Revision records. The Valuation Revision records are not on-line yet for Co. Louth but are held at the Valuation Office in Dublin.

Thanks again Elwyn, that worked a treat.
Have found where they lived with the Griffiths 1850s valuation and maps.
Cannot get to the revision records but hope to do so sometime in the future.

Hi again everyone,
My ancestors were born and lived in Lacken but on the church records it shows they were baptised /married in Blackditches.
I know there is a church in Valleymount/Blackditches-St Josephs.
Would that be where they were baptised as i can't find any records for the local church in Lacken-our lady of Mt Carmel.

there was (I think still is) a church in Lacken also - all the same parish so same registers and records, the NLI describe the parish as 'Blackditches, Boystown, Vallymount'.
