Mary Ann Stonehouse nee Johnson
« on: Friday 15 April 22 00:32 BST (UK) »
Looking for the resting place of a Mary Ann Stonehouse nee Johnson. The last sight I have of her is the 1911 Census. She is the head of the household living in Stokesley age 67, She was born in 1845. With her is Mary Jane Stonehouse age 26. I have found a death for a Mary Ann Stonehouse in the March Quater of 1915 in Darlington age 70. ( GRO index )
Her husband Christopher died in 1884 and is buried in St Augustine Kirkby in Cleveland.
As all our charges have gone up for overseas transactions I want to be sure it's her before I buy the certificate.
Is there any Cemetery information online. I know there was a Remembrance book for Darlington that you could search but my link no longer works.
Thanks in advance for any information or direction you can give.
Carol

This is the link for the Council Book of Remembrance for West Cemetery only:

https://darlington.bookofremembrance.uk/?task=main&site=darlington

Link for the West Cemetery headstones:

http://www.aboutdarlington.co.uk/west-cemetery-headstones-database/

There are other cemeteries in Darlington that would need to be checked.  The Local Studies Library does have microfilmed records i.e. burial and grave registers.  Here are the contact details:

https://www2.darlington.gov.uk/web/arena/local-and-family-history

There are copies of the local newspapers at the LSL too, for possible death notices.  I don't know what the charges are now for research undertaken by the librarians, it always used to be fairly cheap.  They might be willing to look at the cemetery register first, find the burial date, then check the newspapers, otherwise they would have to look at the Northern Echo, which was a six-days-a-week publication, and have to look through potentially two quarters' newspapers!

PR has of Denton Grange West. Denton is a tiny hamlet north of the village of Piercebridge, about 5 miles west of Darlington.  Denton is in the Darlington Registration District.

Many Thanks, tillypeg and rosie99.
It is Mother's Day here in May so just getting my list ready for ordering.
St Augustine seems right.
So if I have it right she died in Denton Grange West and was buried at St Augustine, Kirby in Cleveland.

Your time is much appreciated.

Yes, Carol, that seems to be correct.  She is in good company in St Augustine's churchyard - my 9 x great grandparents Ralph & Ann Grenside are buried there!  Only a mere 258 years before Mary Ann.  :)
