Anne Thomas died 1830 - Dany Castell farm, near Trapp
« on: Sunday 17 April 22 08:35 BST (UK) »
Trying to identify Anne Thomas, died 1830, resident at Dany Castell farm (identified on the tithe map as being between Trapp and Castell Careg Cennan, just south of Penhill farm). The farm is later known as Tan-y-Castell and I've also seen it on a map as 'Cwmcennen'

In the last will and testament of Anne Thomas she lists her children as: Thomas, Mary (who has a daughter, Anne), Anne (who has a daughter, Anne Jones), Rachel (who has a daughter, Anne Morgan), David (who has a daughter, Anne), Morgan (who has a daughter, Anne) and William (who has a daughter, Anne). 5 grandchildren all named Anne!

Here is a link to the will of Anne Thomas:
https://viewer.library.wales/388188#?c=&m=&s=&cv=&manifest=https%3A%2F%2Fdamsssl.llgc.org.uk%2Fiiif%2F2.0%2F388188%2Fmanifest.json&xywh=-133%2C61%2C2175%2C1055

I found possible matches for all of the individuals mentioned but cannot work out which are the correct ones.

I also cannot find Dany Castell anywhere apart from the tithe map (link here - https://places.library.wales/viewer/4644123#?cv=&h=6006&c=&m=&s=&manifest=https%3A%2F%2Fdamsssl.llgc.org.uk%2Fiiif%2F2.0%2F4644123%2Fmanifest.json&xywh=9722%2C21224%2C11891%2C3942)

Another individual of interest here is Jacob Jones of Penhill Farm, the neighbouring farm to Dany Castell. He is named as an executor in the will and is identified in several trees as Jacob Jones (1785 -) = Elizabeth Walters (1778 - ). Maybe there's a clue here to help find Anne Thomas and her kids? It seems that Jacob was a Wesleyn methodist - was Anne Thomas methodist too?

Thanks for any info / suggestions.

Could it be Tan y Castel? On the map https://maps.nls.uk/view/102349872#zoom=4&lat=2603&lon=2452&layers=BT Penhill Farm is north north-west of the castel and Tan y Castel south west, between the castel and Trapp.

Yes, that's the place, exactly. Problem is I can't find any reference to this farm anywhere else or to the family of Anne Thomas - any ideas?

I have looked for newspaper articles and found nothing of that time.
Is this her?
Burial: Anne Thomas . 52
12 Jan 1830 . Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire . Page 49 .Birth Year (Est:) 1778
If so, there maybe a stone with information.

Osprey - can you share where you found the burial record?

There is a Tregeyb Wood and mention of a large house, but it is much closer to Llandeilo. It is now Coed Tregib Nature Reserve. Added: There is a hamlet to the west of Ffairfach.

I think Osprey has the right place - there's a Methodist chapel at Llwynyronnen also described as Tregib (or Tre-gib) - this is exactly the right location for her!

Talacharn - you're correct, I'd seen another Tregib originally further up towards Ffairfach but as always in this part of the world, there are lots of places with the same or similar names.

Osprey - if you can please let me know how you found the burial record and where I can see it for myself that would possibly unlock a major road block for me.

Thanks both so much!
