Hi on my grandmothers marriage 1884  15th April she is listed as Elizabeth Jane Conway married  Hugh Moore  on checking for births and other site has her birth as 1865 death 1943  i can only find one date 28th Jan  1867 Groni records but only lists her name as Elizabeth  i got a text listing from another site Elizabeth Robb Conway 1867 to 1896 married Archibald Taylor Ramsay  the site has both Elizabeths  with same parents  William James Conway and Margaret Robb they married in Scotland in 1863  confusing.

When Eliza Jane Conway married in 1884 she was living at Ballyvaster (sic) and aged 18? yrs. Her father William Conway, a labourer.

Her birth in 1867 (as Elizabeth) with father William James Conway was at Ballyhay townland. Her mother Margaret was the informant.

Note that these two townlands are adjacent to each other and in the civil parish of Donaghadee.

On the 1911 census, she is listed as Lizzie.

Could be she was just using Eliza Jane but was actually only christened, Elizabeth.

Agree, Kloumann  :)

She and/or her family have added Jane to her christian names.

Happens in lots of cases.

Hi  on the 1901Census  a Sarah McGimpsey  is listed with her son William Campbell  and 2 moore children who are listed as her grandson and granddaughter they are Eliza Jane Moore (Nee Conway)and Hugh Moore's children.       An Elizabeth Jane no father listed was born in 1866 to Sarah McGimpsey   but in 1870s Eliza Jane Conway is at Ballyvester P S     With no fathers name on birth cert would the mother have given her daughter the fathers surname back then ?

It wasn't uncommon for people, especially illegitimate children, to be known by a variety of surnames (name of stepfather, mother's partner, natural father. etc.).
