John Robert Evans
« on: Thursday 21 April 22 11:11 BST (UK) »
My G Grandfather was John Robert Evans born in Brec(c)on, Brecknockshire in 1864. He was married to a Jane, surname unknown. At some point they moved to Rochester in Kent. I've found trying to find a specific Evans in Wales is like finding a needle in a haystack. Any help would be much appreciated.

were they the family @ 24, Old Road, Chatham, Medway, Kent, England in 1901?

Hello
The younger daughter on the 1911 Bede born 1896 gives her mother's maiden name as Hodges as you say in Cardiff.
The elder daughter Elsie Violet born Mar 1891 registered June qtr 1891 at Medway has a mother's maiden name Hodges and is registered as Jones.

This seems to mother and child 1891
Dykes Crt Rochester
John Henry Hodges 25 gen lab Liverpool
Jane 27 Dartford
Elisie Violet ?mths Rochester.

I can track the husband but struggling to track Jane and her marriage to John Robert Evans.
The father seems to be born Horton Kirkby Kent  son of William and Rebecca ,but that could be a red herring.

Is that nature's way of telling me I can't subtract?

Ok , Bede marries 1919 to Mr Somerset.

Thank you both for pointing me in the right direction.
Pauline, the John Robert White is confusing. My father mentioned the White to me but he didn't know anything about it either. Unfortunately ,at 86, he is the last ,and youngest, of any of his brothers and sisters so we have nobody to ask. With reference to Bede, it's the only name she was ever known as even by my father. They are the ones from Old Road, Chatham.
Ciderdrinker, thanks for your help. Elsie Violet was my grandmother.

Hi
So Bede says she is 22 when she married Feb 1919 and that would make her born Feb 1896- Feb 1897 and the birth reg is Sep qtr 1896..
Doesn't that fit?
Not trying to be funny  or anything ,it's just that she married early in the year .The 1939 gives her dob 12 July 1896.

I was looking at 1906-ish Births for Bede.
That's what you get when searching over several tabs...
