Did this man have an obituary? I didn't find one in the Cleveland Public Library's News and Necrology File, so I am not too hopeful.

I'm looking for a Pat Kelly who died between 1885 and 1887. The family always said 1887. He is said to have been 'a ballplayer who died when he was hit in the head by a thrown ball.'
His wife, Mary Rodgers, was from Cleveland, their child Patrick was born at her mother's home in Dec 1885. The record said both parents lived at that address, but there is no record of them having done so. And if he was a ball player, he could have died anywhere, I suppose. Patrick Sr was probably born in Tennessee, maybe Nashville.
*** edited to add: I have seen the 1886 Cleveland City Directory listing of a Patrick Kelley, catcher, living at 2274 Fayette.
That might be him. He is not there the year before or after, and the street is in the right neighborhood. But I have a feeling that "catcher" refers to a job in the nearby mills, maybe "catching" the finished product and bundling it for the warehouse or shipping.

newspapers.com's free weekend helped me find enough on the actor Bobby Carroll to identify Mary Rodgers' stage name as Minnie Kelly. That led me to her death, as "Minnie Kelly" in Butte, MT, Nov 11, 1897. Having looked for her off and on for 21 years, I was very happy to find her death and burial. The family had the location exactly right and the year off by one, but I'd never have found her as Rodgers, Kelly, or Anderson.
for anyone interested, and for future searchers who land here, this is the, as of now, finished product:

How this all fits together: When Pat Kelly died, Mary Rodgers married William Dudley Anderson.
