Whatever happened to . . .
« on: Saturday 21 May 22 11:22 BST (UK) »
William HOLTON and his wife Elizabeth (possibly née HOWKINS) lived in Tingewick. They had at least 9 children between 1784 and 1803. I have information on some of the children, but very little beyond their baptisms on several of them.

In particular, the following three children seem to disappear completely after their baptisms:

Joseph HOLTON - bap 1785
Ann HOLTON - bap 1798
Elizabeth HOLTON

Did they die in infancy? Or did they go on to marry? As is often the case with females, it is difficult to track the two girls in the censuses due to possible name changes.

Another puzzle is William HOLTON (bap 1787), who according to the excellent People of Tingewick website married Susanna NORMAN on 15 Oct 1810 in Buckingham. The problem being that I can find no record of this marriage.

Where are you looking on FindMyPast? My searches are not showing these marriages?

Add

I have found the marriage of John WELLS to Ann, but notice it says one of them - not sure which  is widowed. I think it must be her, as he is described as a bachelor. If it is him, then I don't think the Ann HOLTON he marries can be the one I am looking for, as her maiden name would not have been HOLTON. Does this make sense?

Also the same problem seems to apply to the DALTON & HOLTON marriage, with Elizabeth appearing to be widowed. Am I reading these recordswrongly?

Still can't find the HOLTON & Norman wedding.

What record set are you looking at? I'm using the Buckinghamshire Marriage Index on FindMyPast. I see the two marriages for Ann and Elizabeth, but I am bothered by the "widowed" comments. With regard to the third marriage of John and Susanna, I simply can't find it on FindMyPast!

I agree the transcripts on the Buckinghamshire Marriage Index for the Ann and Elizabeth 1821 marriages both state the brides are widowed - so as you say can't be yours. Also the other marriage you mention, Wlliam Holton to Susanna Norman in 1810 in Buckingham, is not on the index.
How very puzzling that Ciderdrinker is seeing different results ???

So the record of the banns is on FindMyPast, but not the actual wedding.

Also interesting that the banns are in Tingewick but the marriage was evidently in Buckingham.
