Does anyone know....
« on: Sunday 04 September 05 18:34 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where the parish records for St Nicholas Brighton are?
I have lots of family members who were baptised, married and buried there.
Mainly Newnham and Muzzall.
Are they still in Brighton or are they archived somewhere?
As this would involve me in a trip to Sussex it would help if I knew whee I was looking!!!

Hi Joice,
Here is the web site for the East Sussex Records office in LEWES.  You should find everything you need to know on the site,

Many thanks.
This should help me to track down the ones that simply 'vanished!'

Familia shows that copies of the registers are at Brighton History Centre - http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/brighton_hove.html - but check with them first.

The Sussex On-line Parish clerk provides IGI numbers for St Nicholas parish - http://www.sussex-opc.org/ParishPages/B/Brighton/BrightonStNicholas.htm

Some baptism data is on the IGI - see Hugh Wallis's pages - http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/IGIBatchNumbers/CountySussex.htm#B

Familia reference for East Sussex is http://www.familia.org.uk/services/england/east_sussex.html#PARISHREGS

Hi Jo

have a look at the Brighton & Hove History Centre

If you're going to Brighton it looks like this place might be worth a visit.   ;)
