If all it has is the couple and witnesses, it isn't the certificate that jamjar was talking about. That is the statutory record of the marriage, which will be much more informative.

You can get it from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for less than the cost of a cup of coffee.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you Rosie. I did search Scotlands people for the deaths of Alexander and  Rosie without success. I now need to buy more credits to check out the details and download the info. I am also very grateful to you for folowing up Catherine to England .  The details on the Mc Intyre/Mc Bryde connection are also very valuable. Gilbert MCINTYRE exists in family photos and no one appears to know much about him apart from the fact that he was an engineer who worked for the Cunard line.  Another wee twig on a branch of the family tree to investigate . Regards Orkrad

It would be interesting to see who the parents are for Catherine Devine when you get her marriage certificate ?
I have only found her on census records as Catherine Tolan  ???

Thanks Rosie, Forfarian, Wivenhoe, Jamjar and Neale  for your help.

Rosie, to answer your question the statutory  record of the marriage of Alexander MCBRYDE and CatherineDIVINE shows the following. Catherine's father _______ DIVINE ( boilermaker deceased ) and mother Bridget DIVINE (ms TOLLAN).
I have also tried over the years to find the death cert for Catherine's father. His name  according to his marriage certificate was  Charles.  I also am more than a bit puzzled that Catherine's mother is named  Bridget in several censuses and in others as Elizabeth DIVINE/TOLAN .  Catherine's grandmother in the 1841 census is also named Bridget so the name change may be to avoid confusion. The family TOLLIN/TOLLAN plus other name variations were from Ireland  ( there are no records of where they came from even in the local church where they worshipped) .   Were   Bridget and Elizabeth and Betty  alternative uses in Ireland for the same person?  The search continues.
