Sorry, I know the online tree building program Tribal Pages is popular but I would suggest it is OK for American Genealogists but a poor choice for UK genealogists mainly because it does not display dates in the correct order for UK genealogy but also it does not recognise the change of calendar, both of these will create problems when dealing with UK records.
In addition, it is a very basic program which limits the number of photographs that may be added it also limits the amount of text in notes, but having said that it would suit a beginner.

Instead, I would suggest first and foremost a program hosted on one's own computer at home. Online sites may and do fail for a number of reasons and in some cases all your work will be lost. Yes, it is possible to lose information from a home computer as well but having back-ups (which all sensible people keep and update frequently) will prevent data loss.

There are a number of Family History programs for home computers these include Family Tree Maker (FTM) possibly the most popular, RootsMagic, Family Tree Builder, Reunion, Legacy Family Tree, Ancestral Quest, Family Historian (my second favourite) and my favourite and to my mind the best by far Brothers Keeper, here I should mention I have tried all of these programs and many more but still rate Brothers Keeper as the best, for a number of reasons.
First it is a good versatile stand-alone program, with good text and image storage and manipulation it may also be integrated with other programs such as Word and Photoshop to professionally manipulate text and photographs in a way not possible with any other family history program, a feature many experienced family historians may fine very useful, even it they have not considered it previously.
It has a large range of scrapbooking tools, you can attach pictures, videos and sound recordings, memories and locations, create reports based on all the recorded data in short an excellent way to tell your family’s story. In addition, Brothers Keeper enables a very wide range of charts to be created and printed
This versatility is I feel the reason more people do not use it as it is simply too powerful for them.
Cheers
Guy

What is it you wish to print?
Personally, I use RootsMagic. I find it meets all my requirements, and there is the free RootsMagic Essentials you can try first.

Not sure about dates being American, I just write mine in. Any documents/records can be scanned and uploaded. The free version is quite limited in the amount of photos/text allowed but you get more when you have a paid version. See link.

I have used Family Historian since circa 2006, when one of RC's members recommended it to me. It's now on version 7.
