This does look very likely.
When Ada Catherine Evans marries Bartholomew senior, she gives her fathers name as Thomas evans.
Looks like you’re probably right about the illegitimate bit. Maybe Thomas is her father or maybe he’s imaginary to make things look better?
So now I can look back a bit further.

I am having no success finding Jessie Evans b Truro with father Joseph as the marriage certificate   :-\

Me neither - helpfully she says b Bodmin on 1911 as well!
