1923 - Death in Dutch East Indies
« on: Tuesday 05 July 22 18:02 BST (UK) »
I would love to be able to read and understand the content of this report of the death of Ernest John Trenfield in 1923 in Batavia.

Ancestry is pointing me to this - can anyone help?

Thanks

Pam

It is an index for a newspaper notice collection held by the CBG (Centraal Bureau voor Genealogie). I'm not a CBG member, but I assume that this entry would be regarding the following death/funeral notice:
https://resolver.kb.nl/resolve?urn=ddd:010219711:mpeg21:a0104
(i.e. On 2 Oct 1923 Ernest (36y) had died of TB in the Carolus Hospital Batavia.)

PS His death Cert should be on Family Search, but would need a visit to an FHC:

See https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/308757?availability=Family%20History%20Library
I believe that his DC will be in the set “Overlijden, Europeanen 1917, 1921-1923, 1925, 1929, 1931” film#1357942 Items 8 – 14

Thank you so much for that - I was interested to see what it said, and death from TB at the age of 36 was not unexpected.  He had got through the war in the RN, had a wife and child back in the UK, so all very sad.

I am seeing he was 'late of Banka' which Wiki is saying is in India, how does this link to where his death was in Carolus Hospital Batavia (Jakarta?)  My knowledge of all that part of the world in the 1920s is minimal.  Or is there another Banka, I am guessing it was where he was working.

Looking on Google, there is a Bankga Island by the Java Sea.  I wonder if this was where he was working at the time???
