James Hughes and Catherine Martin
« on: Sunday 10 July 22 20:35 BST (UK) »
Hi the above had 4 sons that I've found, eldest born 1866. I'm looking for a marriage for this couple with no luck. Also tried Scotland and England and just not seeing it.
Maybe someone would know more about the Irish records than me and can point me to the right direction.

Have you tried on this site?
http://www.irishgenealogy.ie/

It was down yesterday and still seems to be today.

You haven't mentioned what religion they were. Civil registration of Catholic marriages only began in 1864 (from 1845 for non-Catholic marriages)- if it was a Catholic ceremony before 1864 then you'd need to check parish registers- many online (free)-
https://registers.nli.ie/
Have you found them in 1911 census? married women were asked how many years married (not always answered correctly but a useful guide)

Hi, was just about to respond when second message arrived. Firstly, I spent a while looking on the site I was kindly sent yesterday. No joy!!! I've enjoyed looking at others though, but no sign of James Hughes and Catherine Martin. I've taken this couple from the marriage of George in Scotland in 1999. I'm still to look at the census. I've checked Scottish census and it's looking like George their son, was only one to come to Scotland. Great site and I'll def be using it
This Hughes family were Roman Catholic. Sorry, I always forget to say

Elaine

Who did George marry?
Is he in Scotland in 1901?

Hi, George married Mary devlin in 1899,SP has it as James Hughes and Mary devlin. That made the marriage hard to find. Certificate shows parents as James and Catherine Martin. That's probably the correct census. George died in 1916 in France. Think we will have to give up trying to get the parents of James and Catherine.
Thanks for the replies

Maybe there are older children born before registration and also therefore their marriage.
I see Sarah Martin was the informant on James’ birth but I can’t identify her either.
James’ marriage offers no family connections either.

As aghadowey says, do you have James and Catherine  in 1911 or did they die 1901 -1911?
