Lott baptisms Llannon
« on: Tuesday 19 July 22 21:30 BST (UK) »
Hi

Trying to find any more information about the below baptisms in Llannon

Mary Lot 1816
Ann Lott 1818
William Lott 1819
Jane Lott 1820

I believe the parents may be a Thomas and Ruth Lott. I have found a marriage of a Thomas Braithwaite William Lott and a Ruth in Llannon, but they don’t marry until 13 May 1822, where Ruth unusually describes herself as Ruth Lott alias Hopkins.

Thank you

Thanks that’s great. Baptism address corresponds to address in 1841 Goitrewen. I am guessing Ruth describes herself as Ruth Lott alias Hopkins in the marriage record as they weren’t officially married when they had their children? Do others concur?

To answer your question yes likely.

I see on FreeREG Thomas is just down as Braithwaite on the 1822 Marriage.

Thomas's Parents were WILLIAM/MARY Marriage is on FreeREG 06 Feb 1797;
William LOTT/Mary HOPKIN

There is also another interesting Marriage;
Jane Maria LOTT married Morgan HOPKIN 13 Jul 1821
Brides name shown as Jane Maria Lott Alias Hopkins

I see 2 children to them John Lot H 1823 and Thomas Morgan H 1825

1841 Census I think Jane has remarried and under Evans

Thank you to you and everyone else for this very helpful info.

Freereg need to correct their entry as in the actual 1822 marriage entry Thomas is under his full name of Thomas Braithwaite William Lott.

I think Ruth Hopkin was baptised 18 Dec 1789 Dau of Morgan Hopkin and Margaret in Llangennech

There is a marriage of a Morgan Hopkin (of Llandilotalybont)  to Margaret Maurice of Llangennech, in Llangennech on 26 Oct 1789, so it looks like Margaret Maurice was heavily Pregnant with Ruth when she married Morgan.

There are further children of a Morgan Hopkin and Margaret (assuming the same couple) but this time in Llanedi Newhouse Independent Records (on Ancestry) including a Morgan on 25 Jul 1797. This is possibly the same Morgan Hopkin that married the Jane Maria Lott alias Hopkins in 1821 (unless I am confusing myself?). Not sure of the “alias” for Jane in this instance unless she had a child/children with Morgan before the 1821 marriage.

There does seem to be a lott(!) of interaction between the Lott and Hopkin(s) families

As Thomas Lott was a gentleman  i have tried too find out more about him and or Goitrewen. It seems like Goitrewen is a listed building. There is more info here

https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/300021099-goitre-wen-farmhouse-with-adjacent-walled-yards-and-garden-llangennech#.Ytg10RDTWfA

An extract

“ Late C18 gentleman-farmer's house built on an H plan. The house was probably built by William Lott (1763-1806). It was subsequently in the occupation of Lott descendants and members of the related Hopkin and Hopkins families until the death of the last of the Hopkins daughters in 1933. The north block was originally the service quarters, but in the late C19 the house was subdivided and the north block became the farmhouse of the home farm.”

There is also an interesting article on Jane Lott’s husband below (page 4 onwards). A “colourful” fellow!
