Missing death
« on: Wednesday 20 July 22 18:58 BST (UK) »
Good evening,
I’m hoping someone can help me after hitting a brick wall.  Please forgive me for the long post.
My husband’s great grandmother;
Mary Emily Gawthorpe b. 20 Jan 1890 Pattison Town, Washington, Durham.
She married at Chester le Street in 1909 - Thomas Hall 21 April 1887 Wylam, Northumberland, died April 1857, Washington.
They had 3 children John Thomas 1910, Stanley 1912 and Elizabeth in 1915.
The family story was that Mary Emily died either in childbirth or shortly after. Elizabeth’s birth was registered by the child’s paternal grandmother and sadly she died in 1916, her paternal aunt registered her death.
Elizabeth’s father Thomas Hall was a Private in The Tyneside Irish when she was born and died.
I realise that it’s possible that she may have been incarcerated after Elizabeth’s birth or even left the family home, even had a bigamous marriage. However, after searching GRO, Ancestry, FindMyPast, My Heritage, Family Search and FreeBMD I cannot find any record at all of her death or indeed a hospital record or residence.
It’s all so frustrating.
Has anyone got any suggestions please?
Thank you 😊

Thomas Hall 21 April 1887 Wylam, Northumberland, died April 1857, Washington.

I think you may have made a typo there?

Could you check and tell us if you meant to say he died in 1957?

Boo

Hi Carole
Yes he did in 1947. He married his ‘housekeeper’ when her estranged husband died in March 1947, Thomas married her in the august

Hi Carole
I’ve not been able to find him on the 1921 census. Where do you have him living please?

The 1921 census is pay per view on FindMyPast so I havent seen the entry.  Just wondered what his marital status is shown as.  If he is shown as a widower - then Mary died between 1915-1921

I don't subscribe to FindMyPast so don't have a log in etc.  It was just a thought - I haven't looked or found anything
