BOORMAN Ardeley /Walkern/Cromer
« on: Sunday 24 July 22 18:49 BST (UK) »
I am trying to trace members of the Boorman family. 've got info about  them from the mid 19th century, but I've not had much success with the earlier people

I know that William Alfred Boorman was a blacksmith & miller  & he was born about 1820. However the suggestion (from Ancestry) that he was baptised in Lewisham seems  a bit dodgy as the family were strict Baptists & WAB was buried in grounds of the Baptist chapel  in Walkern & the minister was one of his executors.

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions-
Maggott

What birthplace is given on censuses for him?  Ancestry hints are just that - hints - not facts.  You need to carry out your own research

There are 4 William Boorman's on the 1851 in that birthyear range - which one is yours?

Could he possibly be the William BARMAN baptised 10th March 1822 in Hatfield, the son of William & Elizabeth.

There are 5 non-conformist baptisms between 1811-19 in Bishops Stortford with parents William and Mary BEARMAN, no William though.

baptised in Lewisham
2 Sep 1821
Parents William and Mary Boorman
Abode Village
Father Gardener

Marriage, 13 Sep 1820, St George the Martyr, Southwark
William Boorman + Mary Long

I looked up that marriage many years ago, out of interest, as I have Boormans from Southwark!
But is there any connection between Mary Long and James Long in Ardeley?
Or is it all a red herring?

In the 1851 census, Ardeley
James Long Head Married 60 Blacksmith employing one man, born Herts Baldock
Wife Maryann is 52, born Herts Gravely.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:SGR4-848

Possible baptism?
11 Oct 1789, Baldock
James Long
parents William and Sarah

Then, 14 Aug 1791
Mary Long
parents William and Sarah

Is that going to lead anywhere? :-\

John, there is a tree on ancestry that says it was at the "Registery" Office, Hertford, 15 November 1851.
Does not have a copy of it on there. Says his father is also William Alfred Boorman.

The only census they have for William Alfred the blacksmith is 1871 in Ardeley.
