Please can someone decipher where Nancy and James lived. It appears that the first letter is an F and third letter probably an i better seen on the civilrecords irish genealogy record that my attachment. Thankyou for any information. Angela

Could it be Tirglassan with the extended ‘s’ form

I agree. Tirglassan, with the old double "ss". (German also has a double ss format, confusing if you don't know it).

Yes, I often use that site aghadowey but this time I just searched townlands in the parish of Banagher.
I never know if there is a proper way to describe the elongated ‘s’ in the double ‘ss’, Elwyn .

I don’t know the exact term for that old English double s either. But many languages have similar examples. When I learned German in the early 1960s the ß, called Eszett (ie double s) was still in regular use, but I recall my teacher commenting it would probably disappear as she thought modern printing would render it obsolete. Like the English Thorn “Ye.” It largely disappeared because of Guttenberg’s printing press which also struggled to provide that non standard letter.
