Can't see Flora's birth yet, but these children's births show parents as Angus and Catherine (Campbell)

1860 Roderick - 16 Sep 1860 Anderston, Glasgow
1868 Mary - 12 May 1868 Clyde, Glasgow
1870 Catherine - 3 Jun 1870 High Church, Glasgow
1872 Christina - 23 Apr 1872 Clyde, Glasgow
1873 Roderick - 27 May 1873 Blythswood, Glasgow

Trying to find them in the censuses.

I think these may be some census entries for the family above:

1871

Angus Mcdonald 41 Engine Keeper In Bar Work b. Coll, Argyll
Catherine Mcdonald 35 b. Oban, Argyll
Donald Mcdonald 7 b. Glasgow
Catherine Mcdonald 9 months b. Glasgow
Hugh Mclean 30 lodger b. Mull Argyll

Address:    Vingar Hill Arthon Wumbers (no idea what has been transcribed here  ::)) Glasgow/Parkhead

1881

Angus McDonald 46 mason's lab b. Barra
Cathrine McDonald 46 b. Barra
Donald McDonald 16 blind maker b. Glasgow
Rodrick McDonald 7 b. Glasgow
Stephen McDonald 4 b. Glasgow
Alexander McKinnis 42 boarder

Address:    122 Blackburn St, Glasgow/Govan

No sign of Flora there is there  :-\ Wrong family or is she staying with other relatives?

So, occupation for Angus from 1881 matches with what Flora stated on her marriage reg (and showing on her death reg). So, where was she for 1871-91?

Flora's mother Catherine and youngest brother Stephen are showing in Barra in 1901 I think:

Catherine McDonald 66 b. Barra
Stephen McDonald 23 Son fisherman b. Glasgow

Address: Brevig, Barra Invernesshire

This Barra connection links up to what you were discussing with Lodger earlier.

Just additional details for the parents of Flora from the censuses. 1861 below:

Angus Mcdonald 27 agr Lab b. Urgulout, Morayshire
Cathrine Mcdonald 21 b. N K, rosshaven (?)
Rodrick Mcdonald 7 months b. Glasgow

Address: 39 Bothwell St, Glasgow/ Anderston

Birth places are a little all over the place. Best as always to check original images on SP.

Added: Looks, like you have, that Catherine was a widow by 1891 and headed to Barra. Or they could have already have gone back and Angus died in Barra?

All showing as born in Barra, which we know not be correct with the sons being born in Glasgow

Catherine Macdonald 60
Rodk Macdonald 18
Steven Macdonald 14

Address: Cottars House, Barra Invernesshire

I paid a visit to the City Archives in the Mitchell Library, Glasgow this morning. The archives are still only open for part of the week and poor-relief claims have to be ordered in advance.
While there, I took the opportunity of searching the index of names in order to see more volumes next time I'm in.
I had a look for Flora and found three claims that may be her but, until I'm next there, next week perhaps, I wont know.
One is for Govan Combination Parish (fits with Plantation) and the other 2 are, I think, Barony. The ages are right, more or less and the dates are in the 1890's. I'll let you know if I find her.

Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Hi again Monica,

That's a lot of information you have provided, thank you. Working my way through it, the death certificate for Flora looks like the right one with the age being slightly out. The McAuley surname is on Angus's (Her son) marriage certificate, no idea where that comes from. I had the details you shared for Flora's parent's marriage but haven't 100% confirmed them yet.
I have no idea where Flora is as far as the censuses go. My stepdad (this is his family) has said that his grandad, Angus (Flora's son) might have been born in Barra and moved to Stornoway before arriving in Govan but he's not sure how accurate that is.

Hi Lodger,

Thank you so much for being kind enough to check for Flora. It will be interesting to see if it is her and maybe shed a bit of light on what happened to her & John.

Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you both.
