Plank - Escott / Urchfont
« on: Sunday 31 July 22 08:41 BST (UK) »
I'm researching my Plank ancestors living in Escott, Urchfont parish, in the 1600s. To be more specific, Jeremiah Plank b.1621 m Eliz. Willis. Has anyone else looked into this family?

Thanks

If you Google, Escott, Urchfont Wiltshire, Plank

Under the Heading Wiltshire Parish Registers, Marriages IV - Forgotten Books

On approx page 54 - there are the Marriages at Urchfont alias Erchfont -
1538-1812

Just having a quick look ....  there is a

John PLANCKE and Agnes GODWARDE married 29 January 1581

William PLANKE and Maud HILL - 30 May 1618

John PLANKE - and Jhon By 21 September 1620

John PLANKE and Ellinor Humphrye 1 October 1621

(1643 no Marriages)

two entries, then Entries affected by the Plague

Jeremie PLANKE and Elizabeth Willis - 19 January 1644 and five sixths.

etc etc.

Thanks Capetown, it's a good find, I'd already come across this myself. I think I've gone as far as I can with the Urchfont parish registers, I'm hoping there's someone who has connected this line of the family with other local populations, possibly at Market Lavington or Westbury. Escott is really not much more than a manor and associated farm on the way from Mkt Lavington to Urchfont village, and I think the bigger population of Planks is actually at Lavington. I know there are manorial rolls available and other peripheral documentation about the place, I'm hoping someone has found something useful in there.
