Troqueer Parish Church graveyard. Both Turner and McKay families have memorials there.

The Parish of Troqueer lies within the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright and includes the former Burgh of Maxwelltown. The Parish is bordered on the North by the Parish of Terregles, on the South by New Abbey Parish, on the West by Lochrutton Parish and has the River Nith to the East.
The present church stands in an elevated position above the River Nith and is the latest of many churches which have stood on this site.

Alexander Turner’s older brother, James is mentioned on the grave memorial I posted in reply #4.
James Turner married Catherine Denholm White in 1840
This is James and family in the 1841 census
https://www.freecen.org.uk/search_records/5902e7dae9379091b1d3e661/catherine-turner-1841-dumfriesshire-dumfries-1813-?locale=en

They also had a daughter named Patricia Jane in 1844.

After James and Catherine Turner died in 1848, at a young age, it looks as if their two children William and Patricia were cared for by an aunt Jane White, a school mistress in Dumfries.
Both William and Patricia appear to have never married. They are living together in Camberwell London in the 1881, 1891, 1901 & 1911 census. William was a clerk to a tea merchant.
Patricia died in 1931 Greenwich London.

Mary (Grierson) Turner in 1851 census is living in Church St Troqueer.
She gives her age as 75 (ie born about 1776) and her place of birth as Troqueer.
Her age at death and her age in the census are conflicting, but I am inclined to favour the age in the census.
There are 2 possible baptisms on ScotlandsPeople  https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

1/ Mary Grierson 18/02/1776 Troqueer. Parents James Grierson and Margaret McGowan
2/ Mary Grierson 11/09/1774 Troqueer. Parents John Grierson
It is possible that James and John Grierson are brothers – both having families at the same time in the same place.

Looking at William Turner his age at death suggests birth around 1767. We don’t know where he was born.
I would suggest you get the 1810 marriage record for William Turner and Mary Grier to see if there is any detail there about where he was from, or names of witnesses that might help. Unfortunately there is no guarantee that you will get any useful information.
