Commonwealth War Graves Commission are appealing for relatives of Private Joseph William Bowmer - Kings Shropshire Light Infantry - Service No - 20138 - died 14/2/1919
Private Bowmer is buried at Stapleford Cemetery. Notts.
The Commission are in the process of producing a headstone to mark his grave.
https://livesofthefirstworldwar.iwm.org.uk/lifestory/443022Private Joseph William Bowmer enlisted on 9th October 1914 at Nottingham, he gave his age as 22 yrs and 193 days, he was a hair dresser, he was posted to the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. He was seriously wounded on 20th November 1917 whilst serving on the Cambria front he received a gun shot wound to his back, he was treated and returned to England where he was admitted on 16th December 1917 to St Marys Military Hospital, Whalley, Lancashire. His wound had severed his spinal cord and left him a paraplegic an unsuccessful attempt to remove the bullet was made on 7th January 1918.
On 9th April 1918 he was transferred to the Bagthorpe Hospital at Nottingham.
Following a medical board hearing he was discharged from the Army on 31st July 1918 and died on 14th February 1919
