Which newspaper - Leytonstone 1972
« on: Friday 05 August 22 15:47 BST (UK) »
Not sure if this is the right place to ask as Leytonstone was historically Essex but nowadays is East London.

Anyway, I want to find a newspaper report of a wedding that took place at St Andrew's, Colworth Road, Leytonstone in September 1972. The bride lived a three minute walk away.

I've tried searching the newspapers on FindMyPast with no luck so far but as this is relatively recent I think I'm probably going to need to find out which archive holds copies of the relevant newspaper(s).

Please can anyone suggest what newspapers to try?

(I want the report to use for a special gift I'm making to celebrate the couple's golden wedding and not naming names for obvious reason).

Thanks for any help.

If my memory serves me right one of the local papers at the time was The Walthamstow Guardian.  They had offices in Forest Road Walthamstow.  Think it covered Walthamstow, Leyton and Leytonstone.

Thank you.

BNA has them scanned to 1914 so I'll try and find out which archive has physical copies for 1972.

I've just remembered there were also another couple of newspapers in the Stratford area which may well have covered Leytonstone.  The Newham Recorder and the East London Advertiser.

Leytonstone Express & Independent.
That was the one!
I can remember it, but it must have ceased publication around then (1972) :(
It was incorporated into the Guardian I think.

Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow might have the local newspapers in some form or other.

A family member has said they are almost certain it was in the Guardian.

Thanks again everyone - will contact Vestry House Museum in Walthamstow and see if they have them.
