For now, I suggest that you simply go to the Aust board and start a new topic there.

That is simply repeat your request in the right place. ;D

You can use the 'report to moderator' button (bottom right of your current post window) to request ..."please delete as have moved it to right board".

Alfred’s parents, Richard Hughes and Margaret Gleeson married in 1851 in the Tamworth area.

Having seen your new request on the General Useful links board, to which we can't reply, in anticipation of it being moved to the Australia board, I'll just add here that the marriage of Richard HUGHES and Margaret GLEESON was at the Scots Church, Pitt St, Sydney (Presbyterian). The code next to the marriage on the NSW bdm index for District is "QC". Registration number 210/1851 V1851210 80.

I wonder if this is Richard and Margaret HUGHES in 1852 - of Parramatta St, he is a horse and corn dealer.

Also in 1854:

in 1856 (neglecting to support her and 2 children, presumably Clifford - born 1841, and Alfred whose birth I can't see)

A few other mentions on trove as well:

I will join into this conversation while we await a new opening on the Australian board.
Hoping Janice is still following her thread.

Clifford tried to marry underage too. His father warned the clergy. 1859

One Clifford Hughes married Ellen Elizabeth Wickham in 1867

In this version of a rowdy 1873 event, the brothers are named as Frederick and Clifford HUGHES
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/189986712

While in this, the court hearing, the brother of Clifford is named as Alfred  HUGHES.

I think it likely they are, in fact, the sons of Richard, Alfred and Clifford, as the event took place in the Tamworth area (familiar from Richard's first marriage) and it is noteworthy that the poor woman in question was not Margaret, but referred to as the boys' stepmother.

Many many thanks to all for the information. I am unfortunately not able to find 'proof' of Alfred's birth, eg certificate and I can't find how Mary Gleeson entered Aus. J
