I'm looking for my great-great-great-grandfather Patrick Corgan born in Ireland maybe 1760 but more likely around 1766 to 1770. Immigrated to American as early as 1776 but more likely sometime before 1806. He was educated in Ireland well enough to be a school teacher/master. He may have been sent to seminary from which he ran away; or that's just a story someone made up. The first record that I can for sure verify is the US census of 1810 where he was in North Carolina, married and had a three-year old son and a newborn baby. His wife was Mary "Poly" Singleton.
I've found a Patrick Corrigan b1772 in St. Michan and a Patt Corgan of Nichl's St., Morris's b1772 in SS. Michael & John. These are two years off from the 1830 and 1840 census but are the closest I've found.
The Patrick Corrigan of St. Michan appears to be the brother of John Corrigan father of Sir Dominic John Corrigan. I've focused on this one first because the family seems to have had the resources to educate someone and even send them to seminary. Does anyone know what happened to this Patrick?
Any help in finding my ancestor would be fantastic! Thanks!
The idea that he was born in 1760 and immigrated by 1776 looks to me to be nonsense. This idea is also associated with the idea that Patrick's parents were Patrick Corrigan and Margaret McQuaid married in 1741, Dublin, Ireland. Also likely nonsense.
