Convent records in Ireland

I'm looking for records relating to someone born in a convent in Ireland probably between 1920 and 1930. The information I have is limited I'm afraid, I don't know where in Ireland but they were not taken away from their mother so I wondered if the convent was more of a hospital rather than somewhere unwed mothers went then had their babies taken away.
I realise this is vague but I just need pointed in the general direction.

Have you searched for a birth registration.
It would be difficult if you have no geographical hints and if the name is a common one.
If the birth was after 1921 , it will not be online other than in the indexes.

If you have the mother’s name then again Irish genealogy might be of use with birth/marriage/death.

Again if you have mother’s name, you could try 1901/1911 censuses.

The child’s birth registration would give you the place of birth and that would help your search.

However, all this relies on you having some knowledge of the person.

I dont have their mothers name, i dont even know if theyr surname is the mother's or the father's! I'm still gathering information on this person but i shall go through those websites, thanks.
